The 25th Anniversary Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Bullion Coin is a
special commemorative bullion coin, produced by the Royal Canadian Mint,
to celebrate the initial release of the 1ozt. silver Maple Leaf bullion coin.
The bullion coin was first issued in 1988, 9years after the successful release of the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin.
Since the silver bullion coin's introduction, it has been a staple investment coin among bullion investors and collectors alike.
The coin's design, purity and liquidity have made it an attractive asset for bullion investors.
Over the last 25years, the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has had three noticeable changes to its obverse side.
The most noticeable change to the Canadian silver bullion coin has happened to the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
The first photo, to the left, is the first effigy design of Queen Elizabeth II used by the Royal Canadian Mint.
The effigy was created by Arnold Machin and was inscribed on the silver bullion coin from 1988 to 1989.
The second effigy of Queen Elizabeth II was designd by Dora de Pedery-Hunt.
The Royal Canadian Mint used the second effigy design, on the obverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf, from 1990 to 2002.
The current design, below, was created by Susanna Blunt and was first inscribed on the silver bullion coin in 2003.
It should be noted that these three effigies weren't only used on the obverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin, but the three effigies were also used on the obverse side on all Canadian circulated, commemorative and bullion coins during the years noted under each image.
When the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin was first released in 1988, silver's price was trading for a little under $7.00 a troy ounce.
For the next 18years, the price of silver and the silver maple leaf had traded at prices well below $10.00 a troy ounce.
However, since March of 2006 and a brief period after the market crash of 2008, the bullion coin has not sold below the bargain price of $10.00 a troy ounce for silver.
