1/10 oz. American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin

Authorized by Congress in 1985 and first minted in 1986, the American Eagle Gold bullion coins, must by law, consist of gold mined only in the United States.

Design

Obverse

The 1/10 oz. American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin shows the full figure of Lady Liberty on the obverse side. 

She is seen, stepping onto a pedestal with her flowing hair blown by the wind.

In her right hand she is raising a torch above her head, her left arm is stretched out with olive branches in her hand.

Below her, at the lower right hand side of the gold bullion coin, is The U.S. Capital building (narrated in the first person point of view).

Inscribed to the left of Lady Liberty is the gold cons Year of Issue.

"LIBERTY" is inscribed along the top of the coin.

The edge on the gold coin is Reeded.

Note: From 1986 - 1991, American Eagle Gold coins had the year stated in Roman Numerals. From 1992 to present the year of issue has been numerical.



Reverse

The reverse side of the 1/10 oz. American Eagle Gold bullion coin was designed by Miley Busiek.

It shows a male eagle with a olive branch in his talons, descending to his family of eagles.

The design symbolizes American tradition and unity.

The reverse is inscribed across the top of the coin with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

The gold bullion coins Weight, Purity and Face Value of "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD~5 DOLLARS" is inscribed across the bottom of the coin.

The words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (which is Latin meaning "Out of Many, One") is found to the right side of the family of eagles and "IN GOD WE TRUST" is displayed on their left (narrated in the first person point of view).

Under the nested family of eagle are Miley Busiek's initials of "MB" on the right and on the left are "JW" representing those of the original engraver of the coin.

Note: American Eagle bullion coins do not have a Mint Mark.  Only the Collector's Proof and Collector's Un-Circulated Versions of the American Gold Eagle have a mint mark on the reverse side.
