The obverse side of the 1 oz. American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin is based on world-renowned American sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ design for the prized 1907 $20 gold coin.

The design depicts Lady Liberty, standing proudly with flowing, windblown hair.

She is holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.

The Capitol building is found to the lower right of Lady Liberty, in the background (narrated in the first person point of view).

"LIBERTY" is inscribed along the top of the gold coin.

The Year of Issue for the gold bullion coin can be found to the left of Lady Liberty.

The Edge of the coin is Reeded.

Note: From 1986 - 1991, American Eagle Gold coin had the Year of Issue stated in Roman Numerals. From 1992 to present, the year of issue has been numerical.
