Eric Sprott

Eric Sprott is a Canadian billionaire who is known for building his career around investing in precious metal mining companies.

Before the Stock Market Crash in 2008, Eric Sprott advised investors to buy gold; after the financial crisis, gold rallied to an all-time high, briefly touching $2000.00.

Eric Sprott has over five decades of experience investing in stocks and commodities; he was born in Ottawa, Canada, in 1944.

Eric got into the investment industry by starting as a research analyst at Merrill Lynch after he earned his designation as a chartered accountant.

In 1981, Eric Sprott started Sprott Securities, an institutional brokerage that he sold in 2001 to the company's employees; he donated $10 million of his earnings from the sale to Carleton University, which changed the name of their business school to the Sprott School of Business.

Today, what was Sprott Securities is now known as Cormark Securities, which has become one of Canada's largest securities firms.

In 2008, Sprott started Sprott Money Ltd., a vault storage company that allows investors to buy precious metal bars and coins and hold them in secure international vaults.  The service allows investors to hold metals with reasonably low storage costs and an easy way to liquidate these assets if or when needed.

In June 2009, Sprott Asset Management LP reorganized to better define and streamline the key segments of their business. Sprott Asset Management LP currently manages a number of long/short equity strategies and mutual funds.

Eric's investment abilities are well represented in his record in the management of the Sprott Hedge Fund L.P., Sprott Hedge Fund L.P. II, Sprott Bull/Bear RSP Fund, Sprott Offshore Funds, Sprott Canadian Equity Fund, Sprott Energy Fund and Sprott Managed Accounts for which he has also won many awards.
