In 2004, the Perth Mint added another gold bullion coin to their popular Lunar Gold bullion coin series, the 1/2 oz. gold bullion coin.

The Australian Lunar Gold and Silver bullion coins are some of the most sought after bullion coins minted in the world.

Each series of bullion coins have raised images with proof-like finishes, which often yields a higher premium for the lunar gold coins.

The obverse of the Australian Lunar Gold Coin - Bullion Series I displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by designer Ian Rank-Broadley.

Series I : Reverse

2005 - 1/2 oz. Australian Gold Lunar Bullion Coin - Year of the Rooster - Series I - Reverse side

The reverse side of each Series I Australian Lunar Gold bullion coin shows an image of the Lunar Animal associated with its Chinese Lunar year; the 2005 Lunar Gold bullion coin depicts a Rooster crowing as the sun rises behind it.

  • 1/2 OZ 9999 GOLD

Note: In 1999, the Series I Australian Lunar gold bullion coins featured a unique "P100" mint mark, commemorating the Perth Mint's "100th Anniversary." It was the only Series I gold lunar coin with a mint mark.

The centerpiece of the obverse side on all Australian bullion coins is the profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
