In 2006, the Perth Mint added the 10-kilo Australian Lunar Gold bullion coin to their popular bullion series.

Until the Perth Mint minted the first one-ton gold bullion coin in October 2011, the 10-kilo lunar gold bullion coin was the largest gold coin the Perth Mint had ever produced for investors.

The Government of Australia guarantees all Lunar Series gold bullion coins, which are legal tender under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.

The animal on each Australian Lunar gold bullion coin is associated with the Chinese Lunar Calendar year.

The centerpiece of the obverse side on all of the Australian Lunar Gold bullion coins is the profile of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
