First minted in 2005, the Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf was the first government issued palladium bullion coin.
In the past, several countries had issued palladium coins as commemorative issues, but never as an official Government Backed, Investment Grade, Bullion coin.

Obverse
The obverse of the palladium coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, the effigy was designed by Susanna Blunt, her initial's, "SB" are inscribed on the Queen's shoulder.
"ELIZABETH II" is inscribed across the top of the palladium bullion coin.
The palladium coin has a Face Value of "$50 DOLLARS," this is inscribed along the bottom of the coin, with the Year of Issue.
In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint added the radial lines to make it harder for counterfeiter's to reproduce the coins, these lines are engraved on both sides of the palladium bullion coin.
Reverse
The reverse of the palladium bullion coin features Dora de Pedery-Hunt's engraving of the national symbol of Canada, the Maple Leaf.
Inscribed across the top of the bullion coin is "CANADA."
The purity of the palladium coin is inscribed on both sides of the maple leaf as "9995".
The words "FINE PALLADIUM", "1 OZ PALLADIUM PUR" are displayed across the bottom of the bullion coin.
The Edge of the coin is Reeded.
In 2013, the Royal Canadian Mint added a security feature to the 1oz. Canadian Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin's reverse side.
In 2014, the RCM started to add this feature to the reverse side of all the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins.
The RCM's security mark is a Micro-Engraved Maple Leaf design produced by the Mint’s use of laser technology.
Inside of the laser engraved maple leaf is the numeral “15” indicating the coin’s year of issue, which is more easily visible under magnification.
