Last Updated on 06/23/2024
The 25th Anniversary Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Bullion Coin is a commemorative bullion coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint to celebrate the initial release of the 1oz silver Maple Leaf bullion coin.
Since the silver bullion coins' introduction in 1988, 9 years after the successful release of the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin, it has been a staple among bullion coin investors and collectors.
Over the last 25 years, the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has had noticeable changes to its obverse side.
The most noticeable change to the Canadian silver bullion coin happened to the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse image to the left was the first effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin.
_______ |
The second effigy of Queen Elizabeth II was designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Her effigy design was the first time Canadian coinage broke from the official use of Great Britain's Royal Mint effigy design. The Royal Canadian Mint used the second effigy design on the obverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf from 1990 to 2003. _______ |
The effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, below, was designed by Susanna Blunt and was first inscribed on the silver bullion coin in 2004. It should be noted that the three effigies weren't only used on the obverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin; they also graced the obverse side of all Canadian circulated, commemorative, and bullion coins during the years noted under each image. |
